Women's Bikes

It's a fact of life that not everyone has exactly the same proportions. In the world of mass-production bicycles, this is a problem. Bike manufacturers would love it if frame design were a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. It would make our jobs a lot easier too! The reality is that fit is a lot more complicated than just getting the right top-tube length. If you've got long legs and a short torso, you might need one particular size in in the top-tube, but the next size up in the seat-tube and head-tube. Reverse all that if you're proportioned the other way around. Like I said, it's complicated. So what happens, for better or for worse, is that manufacturers shoot for the middle ground.

The problem is, it tends to be the middle ground for the male gender. This means most bikes get  roughly equal top-tubes and seat tubes, wide handlebars, and "unisex" saddles. It works for great for a lot of men. It doesn't work so well for that large segment of the population that's female, and it's been a huge oversight on the part of the bike industry that this has been the case. The bottom line is that a lot of women really need shorter top-tubes. Not to metion other things, like narrower handlebars and women's specific saddles. Getting that perfect fit is 90% of having a great ride, and so it's essential to find a bike with the right proportions and features.

Thankfully, the times have changed, and the bike industry has finally caught on.There are more great options than ever these days! Wilier, Pinarello, Specialized, and Jamis all make phenomenal bikes designed around the needs of women. These aren't just entry-level bikes that only come in pink anymore. Nowadays, the women's line has versions of everything, from the top shelf racing frames down to fat-tired grocery-getters in geometries specifically tailored to give that perfect fit. The choice is as wide as it can be, and there are virtually no limitations in finding that next perfect bike!
